San Francisco & Hawaii

‘From the ribbon-like Lombard Street to the serenity of Waikiki Beach’

Despite being on the West Coast of the USA, San Francisco remains one of America’s most popular holiday destinations for UK and European tourists thanks to its reputation as a friendly, accessible city full of landmarks. Hawaii too features on many people’s bucket lists due to its climate and incredible natural scenery. Combining the two means you will get the perfect blend of a city stay and beach break.

The first part of the tour will see you arrive in San Francisco and enjoy all that it has to offer as a multi-cultural city. During you time there you can’t miss the Golden Gate Bridge, a world-famous landmark since 1937 and the prison island of Alcatraz in the distance off shore, which is now a must-visit museum.

Also well worth a look during your stay in this part of Northern California are Fisherman’s Wharf and Pier 39, where you’ll find a well-rounded mixture of eateries, shops, entertainment venues and incredible vistas. Beyond that, nature lovers will relish the chance to spend time at San Francisco Zoo and the Botanical Gardens.

If you have a hire car for the holiday, then a drive along Lombard Street with its unique hairpin turns is a real thrill. However, many argue that the best way to navigate this hilly city is by using the cable car system.

Once you arrive in Hawaii for the second leg of the trip you will be greeted immediately with stunning views and friendly locals. Hawaii has become an iconic destination due to its unbelievable beaches, postcard waterfalls, volcanic landscape and wonderous state parks.

The capital, Honolulu, is home to the most famous beach of them all, Waikiki Beach and the historically significant Pearl Harbor. Of the 137 islands of Hawaii, Maui and Oahu are the most popular, in part because they are peaceful and known for being some of the best surfing spots on teh planet.

If grabbing a surfboard isn’t your thing, then maybe snorkelling is. There are plenty of venues to dive underwater such as the islet of Molokini, Kaanapali Beach and Kealakekua Bay. But if you don’t want to get too wet, then a day spent at the Volcanoes National Park is a must, there you can see KÄ«lauea and Mauna Lo, which are still active.
