No other city blends ancient ruins, spectacular architecture and vibrant culture quite like Rome.

Anyone with an interest in history will feel instantly at home in ‘The Eternal City’, which is littered with hugely significant landmarks such as the Colosseum, Roman Forum, Fountains of Trevi, the Pantheon and St Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City. There is nothing quite like the connection you feel to the past when you spend time among what remains of the epicentre of the Roman Empire.

Away from Rome’s nods to its storied past there is plenty to keep shoppers and foodies busy too. Milan may be considered Italy’s fashion capital, but Rome’s shopping streets can rival their northern counterparts.

As for food and drink, dining in Rome can be an unforgettable experience. There are so many independent, family-owned restaurant that prepare and serve fresh local food daily. Trying some of Rome’s famous dishes like the Cacio e Pepe or Pizza al Taglio will not disappoint.

While it is possible to see all of Rome’s most famous monuments and landmarks in a few days, there are enough attractions to keep anyone visiting busy for more than a week. Italy also has a superb train network making day trips to other nearby cities like Avezzano or even Florence possible.
