Barcelona

‘Fantastic weather, stunning food and fabled architecture’

Barcelona is one of Europe’s premier cities, with a huge amount to see and do.

Architecturally it’s incredibly impressive, with medieval-style streets punctuated by gothic buildings and narrow cobbled alleyways. Very few areas of the city have been modernised, making it a throwback for visitors more accustomed to spending time in places like Tokyo, London or New York that are constantly evolving. But this is no knock on Barcelona, as it’s appeal and charm centre around its general atmosphere and surroundings.

Tourists flock to Barcelona for its nightlife, which is almost second to none in Europe. Bars and restaurants stay open through the night and into the early hours of the morning almost across the board, so you can make the most of Spain’s hot climate when the sun goes down and the temperature drops.

It also means you have plenty of time to sample some of Catalonia’s best food offerings, from seafood dishes such as Esqueixada de bacallà and Fideuà or meat-based delicacies such as Canelons and Fricandó.

As for must-see attraction’s Gaudi’s church should feature near the top of anyone’s list; the unfinished structure, which is always being added to, is one of the more awe inspiring building’s on the continent. History lovers will enjoy a trip to the Montjuïc Castle which has overlooked the city since 1640 and the Arc de Triomphe. Art Museums are aplenty too and scattered across the city. And anyone interested in sport will find a tour or game at the Camp Nou too hard to turn down, it’s a vast mega-stadium, home to one of the best teams in the world.

But the best of Barcelona isn’t necessarily found in land. As a coastal city, there are also plenty of beaches and a port to explore when the sun is shining, each with plenty of dining possibilities.
